During my first year as a computer science student at Howest, we embarked on the ambitious task of creating a personalized version of Monopoly as a group project. Despite all the lessons and guidance we had prior to this project, the responsibility for developing the entire backend logic and frontend gameplay was entirely up to us, the students. We chose an Ancient Egypt theme, and with all five team members fully engaged, each person contributed to their part.
In this project, some team members worked on the backend implementation in Java while others focused on the frontend implementation. We regularly switched roles to see what was a better fit for each person since this was our first big project. While the game has some lingering bugs and isn't fully functional, we are proud of what we accomplished with the little time, knowledge, and skills we had.
This project marked my introduction to collaborative coding and teamwork. I navigated through different challenges, honed my skills in Java backend development and frontend development, and gained valuable experience in project coordination and teamwork dynamics.
